Echelon was commissioned to publish the seventeen study guides in support of the new CIPS Qualifications programme in June 2005 for delivery the following spring. Over a million words were published during this project which was delivered on-time and to budget.

Following similar work for organisations such as CIPFA and the Institute of Internal Auditors, Echelon was instrumental in providing Word templates for the commissioned authors which followed specific style frameworks. The material was edited for good learning design before being published via Echelon’s content management system as html manuscripts available for delivery in a consistent style via text and via the web.

The content management system used was the one designed by Echelon’s IT developers. It is relatively unique in being able to handle complex graphs, financial equations and tables, and produce an end product which is highly flexible in its delivery over a range of media platforms.

Holding this material electronically enables the Institute to edit and update the guides speedily and highly cost effectively – roughly 20% of the historic costs of publishing revisions.

Echelon’s combined IT and learning design capabilities are one of the publishing division’s unique selling propositions, and one which commercial organisations, business schools and professional bodies are finding of considerable value.
